Sending Love

Print

I had some time yesterday so I have made one last card for the MFT Superstar contest. I recently ordered some MFT goodies which included 5 stencils and so this card uses another MFT stencil called Grid – but this time with embossing paste, coloured with Pumice Stone distress ink. And I am loving the new MFT Label Maker Sentiments stamp set!

I also pulled out my Upsy Daisy Die-Namics dies which I haven’t used in ages.

Herd You Had a Birthday

Print

The MFT Superstar contest ends in a couple of days, so I thought I would throw my hat in the ring with this card. These cows are just the most adorable critters! I love their goofy expressions and when I added the googly eyes – well I just had to giggle! It is like they are saying ‘oooooohhhh’. They are coloured with Copics and a Memento marker (as I don’t own any black Copic markers – I’ll have to remedy that soon). The stencil is also from MFT and was sponged with black ink. The blue background was a scrap piece of water colouring that I had laying around.

MFT Whole Herd | Marion Vagg

My Dad would love this card. He is a farmer who has a really dry sense of humour and a punny sentiment is right up his alley. Well that is one birthday card made for next year!

A challenge with Therese

Today my blogging buddy Therese Calvird and I have a little treat for you. When we met in person over a year ago, we decided that we should have a mini challenge between us. It has taken a little while to get off the ground, but better late than never right?

For today’s challenge we are using this gorgeous cake as our inspiration.

I loved the airy look of the butterflies and the overall colour scheme. Here is what I came up with.

You're Loved | Marion Vagg

I white heat embossed the Hero Arts Antique Engraving’s butterfly onto vellum and cut it out. The leaves are also die cut from vellum to replicate that airy look on the cake. In order to create some interest in the background, I blended in some distress inks and then using a Studio Calico Chevron mask, I lightly spritzed it with some water. The water reacts with the distress ink and created a watermark look.

Enjoying some Masking

I’m back with another card for the online card class – Clean and Simple Card making 3.

CS3_paticipant

Today I cut some stars out of some masking paper and then used the negative space as a mask. Then I clear heat embossed the Hero Arts Flower Dot pattern before blending in a rainbow of colours. Happy and bright and a one layer card 🙂

Enjoy|Marion Vagg

It’s hard to tell, but I covered the colourful stars in some clear Wink of Stella brush glitter pen.

Case Study #155

I haven’t played along in a challenge for ages –  and what a better way than with Case Study #155 where the Muse is one of my all time favourite card makers – Jennifer McGuire. Here is her inspiration card.

CSC155_zps56bc23fa

I was drawn to the banners, but created one big one, instead of smaller ones. The background stamping also emulates the diagonal feel that is on Jennifer’s card.

You fill my thoughts

And while I was at it, I decided to try another Jennifer idea and make a card that was not the norm – the banner lifts open to write your message underneath. I can’t find a link to where she showed this idea, but it made such an impression on me I wanted to try it. The main focal point was a little time consuming as I placed all those individual pieces back into the die cut, but I love the result!
