Happy Bird-Day – Jane’s Doodles

Jane's Doodle Banner

Today I had the chance to play with another one of Jane’s newer stamp sets called Tropical Birds. I had a lot of fun colouring in the toucan, which I coloured with Copic markers. I fussy cut the leaves and flowers and clustered them together around the oval die cut, which I popped up onto some foam tape.

The sentiment is from an older set called Free as a Bird.

Speaking of Copic markers, I have had to do a lot of Copic maintenance lately as many of my Copics have been running dry. I have also recently discovered that the Copic marker refills have changed – Copic is no longer making the larger Various Ink refills, but are now making the smaller (and more expensive) round 12ml refills. I must have been under a rock, as I didn’t know this – but with lots of research I have found that this shop in Australia called The Art Shop, still have many of the larger refills in stock and I went shopping (the price point was pretty good too). Also on my research journey I found that some Copic colours have been discontinued and some colours have had a name change! I’d love to know if you knew all this – or am I the only one who hadn’t heard?

Anyway, thanks for sticking with me.

Wonderful You – Jane’s Doodles

Jane's Doodle Banner

Hello. I have another Jane’s Doodles card to share with you today, one that was up on the JD blog earlier this week. Well as many of you know, for many months Jane was unable to send me any new sets die to postage restrictions to Australia. Thankfully that has changed now, and last week I received all the sets that I had missed out on since June….I love playing with new stamps.

Well I got to work straight away and I used the Wonderful You stamp set and created this.

I used some masking paper to mask off the oval and blended in some Distress Oxide inks (Abandoned Coral and Fossilized Amber). The flowers were coloured with Copics and fussy cut before rearranging them a thousand times before I can up with this. The sentiment is from the same set.

And I also realised I hadn’t shared these cards with you either – again all JD cards. This card uses the Seamus stamp set.

And this card uses the adorable Outdoors set – I can’t get enough of that moose!

Thankful For You – Jane’s Doodles

Jane's Doodle Banner

Hello. I have another Jane’s Doodles card to share with you today. This card was inspired by Laura Bassen and her beautiful wreath card. Everything Laura makes is magical, so I tried to channel some of her magic.

I used the Thankful stamp set and stamped two of each leaf and then coloured them with Copics. I re-stamped the images again in VersaFine onyx black ink to make then pop, before fussy cutting them out.

I adhered the wreath to a cream card base and scattered some coloured dots around once finished.

The sentiment is from the same set. Even though we are moving into Spring here in Australia, this autumnal card makes me happy and I love how it turned out.

Critters Galore – Penny Black ‘Refreshing’ Inspiration #5

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is refreshing-banner-1.jpg

Me again! Two posts in 2 days! What is happening to me? Well these posts are the fruit of a very productive crafty weekend. I’ve had such fun in the studio of late. These adorable critters from Penny Black are from the Refreshing release and I just couldn’t stop at one tag – so made 4!

All these cute critters are from the Critter Delights stamp set.

I used the Tagged creative metal die set and die cut 4 tags. I then stamped each image onto a tag with Memento Tuxedo black ink and coloured them with Copic markers. (Once coloured, I like to re-stamp over the image again in VersaFine Onyx black ink as it makes everything pop!).

I die cut the Silver Linings cloud dies out of some Post-It notes and used these as a stencil to create the clouds in the backgrounds. I kept on moving it around and changing up the angles. I used Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink for the clouds.

The sentiments are all from the Carefree Wishes stamp set from a previous release.

Thanks for sticking with me through this photo heavy post. I had a lot of fun creating these tags and know that they will come in very handy for my kid’s friends birthdays.

Trust Me – Penny Black ‘Refreshing’ Inspiration #4

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is refreshing-banner-1.jpg

Good evening! I’ve had a rather crafty weekend and I’m back to share with you some more Penny Black goodness using products from the Refreshing release.

Today’s card uses a beautiful vase of flowers from the Refreshing stamp set. I stamped it onto some Neenah Solar white cardstock and then coloured it with Copic markers. I really love the yellowy-orange and teal combination of colours. Something a little different for me.

The sentiment is from the Trust Me Builder stamp set. I stamped the Trust Me in black ink, then white heat embossed the ‘You’re lovely’ portion onto some card stock and popped it up with some foam tape.

In order to match the card base to the colours on the vase, I simply coloured the edge of my white notecard with one of the Copic marker colours I used…and no one will ever know that the whole card base isn’t that colour!

Thanks for stopping by. To view and or purchase any of these new products from these releases, head to the Penny Black online store.

Until then,

Sending Love and Hello – Jane’s Doodles

Jane's Doodle Banner

Hello, I’m back with another two cards for Jane’s Doodles. Both cards are very similar, but I wanted the experiment and try this simple technique using different stamps and I got completely different results.

Both cards use the same colour combo of Distress Oxide Inks – Seedless Preserves, Worn Lipstick and Fossilized Amber. I think these colours look great together. I masked off the areas I wanted coloured with either washi tape or masking paper. I sponged on the Distress Ink fairly heavily. For the butterfly card I used the Doodle Butterflies stamp set and stamped it all with VersaFine Onyx black ink.

For the second card I used the Plumeria stamp set and the Hello sentiment is from the Cactus stamp set. No colouring required, so it was a pretty easy and quick set of cards to make. To finish them off I used some Nuvo dots (pearl).

The great news is that Jane is back from her vacation and the shop is once again in full operation.

If you have any questions about my cards, just contact me and I’d be happy to answer them.
