Happy Birthday – Penny Black

simplicity sister

Today I have a colourful card showcasing some Penny Black products. I started by stamping the hexagon stamp from the Penny Black Textures stamp set repeatedly down a piece onto watercolour paper. I then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Next was the fun part – I went to town with a rainbow of Distress Ink colours, a paintbrush and some water.

I did some partial stamping to create the sentiment. The Happy is from the Sprinkles and Smiles stamp set and the Birthday is from the Good Day stamp set.

Jane’s Doodles Release Blog Hop

Jane's Doodle Banner

Today I am taking part in the Jane’s Doodles release blog hop. Three new sets have been released into the store.

Under the Sea

Winnie Halloween

Jane's Doodles Winnie Halloween

First up I have made a card using the Anemone stamp set. I am really into adding texture with embossing paste at the moment. It creates subtle interest in background for a focal point. I coloured the white embossing paste with Antique Linen Distress ink. The Anemone is coloured with Copics and a Prismacolor pencil.

Next up is a cute whale from the Under the Sea set (which is out of stock, but it can be pre-ordered). To create the background, I blended in some Salty Ocean distress ink and then created the splatters with some water and had a paper towel on hand to mop up the moisture – removing some of the colour.

Speaking of whales, there are a lot of them migrating north at the moment along the east coast of Australia. The kids and I went looking for them this afternoon and I did manage to catch a glimpse of one. Amazing creatures.

I Love Ewe – Jane’s Doodles

Jane's Doodle Banner

Today I have a cute Seamus card up on the Jane’s Doodles blog. Now there is a story behind this card. I actually can’t take full credit for it, as it is based on this card by Jenny Mullens. When Jenny made her Seamus card back in February, I fell in love with her design. When I came to make my card for Jane’s blog, I hadn’t seen Jenny’s card since January (and I didn’t look at hers until after I had made my card)…and well, you can see that her design must have been imprinted in my memory as its pretty similar. Thanks Jenny for your inspiration!

Happy Birthday at Muse and a Farewell

muse_logo

It is my week at the Muse Card Club and sadly, it will be my last Muse card. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2.5 years of being a Muse and working with a fabulous team (both past and present). But alas, I feel it is time for me pass the Muse baton on to someone else. Who is that someone? Well you will just have to wait for that announcement in the coming weeks.

So, onto my card. A bright and happy birthday card using some My Favorite Things products. The subtle background chevrons were created with a metal die, but I used a rubber embossing mat, instead of a cutting plate. This is a great way to get more use out of your wafer thin dies. The balloons have some subtle Copic marker shading to add a little bit of dimension.
